Burn tips

The First Burn

On the first burn it is important to let the burn pool reach the outer limits of the glass – so allow around 3 hours for the first burn.  If the wax melt doesn’t reach its outer limit, the subsequent burns will only reach this level and as a result form a narrow ‘tunnel’ down the candle.

Each time before you burn the candle trim the wick to around 5mm. this will mean the burn will be more efficient and will not ‘smoke’.

It is advised to burn your candle for a minimum of one hour but for no more than four hours as this can cause the wick to ‘mushroom’ and soot to form possibly making the wick less stable.  If you wish to burn it for longer, we recommend extinguishing it, allowing it to cool and trimming the wick before relighting.

Please make sure there is no wick debris or matches in the wax pool, this can cause the flame to be smoky.

The glass or tin may heat during burning, so always rest it on a heatproof surface and place it away from anything that may burn – a curtain or throw for example.

It goes without saying to keep a lit candle out of reach of children or pets and extinguish it before going out.

Please, never leave a burning candle unattended.

Because we use natural soy wax, our candles may not have the same scent throw as paraffin candles.  Our fragrances may be more subtle, despite the high percentage fragrance used. Our chosen candle size is able to fill an average size room with its amazing scent.  If you have open plan areas or higher ceilings you may find two candles better fill the space.

It is advised to snuff out a candle rather than blow it out.

As all our candles are hand poured in small batches, sometimes the top of the candle may appear uneven or have small cracks on the surface.  This is a normal characteristic of soy wax and will not affect the quality of the burn or the scent.

It is advised not to let the candle burn right to the end, extinguish the candle when there is 5mm of wax left.  This is so the container is not damaged.  Please return the container to us so we can refill it for you.
